Welcome To The

Association of Bakossi Indigenes

ABI-UK is an association of the UK-resident Bakossi community of people with a common ancestry and culture of the Bakossi or Kupe-Muanenguba region of the Republic of Cameroon. ABI-UK members are traditional positivists: people who know that although they live far away from their native Bakossiland, they ‘do not sever their links with the cradle’.
In playing a lead role in promoting, overseas, the centuries-old Bakossi culture, ABI-UK also undertakes to support socio-economic development of the Bakossiland. This is facilitated through its Charitable Trust, “ABI-UK Trust”. The relevant socio-economic development projects are usually, but not always, conceived and prepared for fundraising by the various ABI-UK Committees, under the patronage of a committee chairperson.

ABI-UK has a strict policy of non-discrimination against any individual or group of individuals on the basis of age, color, disability, ethnicity, gender identity, gender expression, marital status, national origin, race, religion, sex, sexual orientation, veteran status, or political affiliation. So, please, feel free to come and join us in session – see our Calendar section.
Through this website, ABI-UK hopes to fulfill your desire and/or curiosity to discover some of the riches and intricacies of Bakossi - the people (Bekose), the land (Ekose) and the language (Akose).

Our mission statement

ABI-UK is a non-for-profit cultural and developmental organisation with a resolute commitment to create a socially cohesive environment for its members.

The group offers equal opportunity for all Bakossi indigenes and their significant others and has a clear purpose of providing charitable, healthcare and educational services and support to the heritage of the people of Bakossi in particular, the Republic of Cameroon and continental Africa in general.

The Group seeks to promote the Bakossi culture, the Bakossi person’s legendary hospitality and hard work, as well as development in Bakossiland and the Republic of Cameroon in particular.

Our Core Objectives

To promote the Bakossi Culture in the Diaspora. By exhibiting and projecting our culture in its rich diversities, it is our hope and intention to highlight and develop the positive aspects of our heritage. We shall be incorporating at least one cultural activity e.g ndieh (annual traditional and cultural festival), in our annual calendar.

To create and maintain a socially cohesive environment. With a clear focus on consolidating the best from each other and using some of the fundamental values of the UK society as a catalyst, we aim to promote Equality, Respect, Unity, Development and Tolerance among members.

To engage collectively in the development of the Bakossiland through ABI UK Trust. We are committed to the course and intend to achieve this through fundraising activities and financial donations. Over the years we have supported with great appreciation some micro projects. We donated some funds towards damage repairs to some schools in the Bakossiland.

Solidarity to one another. We are committed to providing emotional and financial support to all members during difficult as well as happy times.

We operate an open and unlimited policy to all Bakossi indigenes in the UK and their spouses. You are welcome to attend any of our sessions. Please consult our meeting Calendar.

Our Causes
